Week 10 3/29/2010

hello hello loved ones!!!! hows everyones week been? sunds like you guys had an eventful trip at the cabin last weekend! i dont think our family is capable of going on any trip without someone getting hurt. lol. but thats what makes it exciting. hello steeve!! i hope your shoulder feels better! im soooo excited for grandma and grandpa...i dont really know what to say about that excpet im excited for them. thats huge!! and im soo excited for craig and janaye! everyone really is gonna be married by the time i get back geez! oh my gosh i cant believe the boys are playing tball! and ashlyns in ballet!! (thats alittle to girly) but i guess im okay with it as long as i get pictures of all 3 of them!! and yes sister fagersten gave me your message the other day mom. thank you!
well, we honestly havent had very much goin on since i emailed last wednesday. our moccasins turned out awesome! took us forever though! i love it here soo much. i cant even describe the people in our ward and our investigators here! they're so awesome, i love them soo much its ridiculous! lol. most people are super nice here for the most part but when we're tracting theres always some super rude people. tracting and street contacting...i hate! ive just been having a really hard time with the fact that when im at home for the most part im really good at meeting and talking to new people. im a social butterfly so ive been told. lol. but i have the hardest time starting a conversation about the gospel right off the bat with someone, knocking on their door, saying the wrong thing or not saying enough and having them shut the door in our faces. its frustrating and exhausting.ive been super frustrated with myself about all of that lately. i got a letter from blake last week and he told me about some of his tracting experiences that made me laugh and made me promise to focus on the good things! which helped me soo much and im trying to keep that in mind while we tract. having my best friend on a mission at the same time as me helps soo much i cant even explain and knowing that dads gone through some of the same things! (not that long ago right! :) ) granted ive only been out for like 2 months but props to anyone thats gone on a mission! i have soo much respect for all of you!! a mission is the best kept secret ever i think. theres no way for you to describe or explain all the feelings and experiences you have on a mission. its so funny but sad and frustrating at the same time to me when we go tracting and your literally right there at these peoples front door offering to teach them about MORE about christ. how could you ever know enough about him! and teach them about literally the only way to have eternal life and live with heavenly father and jesus christ and they say "nah, i think im good" REALLY!! welp have fun with satan!! jk haha. but really.
anyway, when you're in iowa you become a UNI panther and a hawkeye fan. its inevitable! so if youve been watching march madness uni made it into the sweet sixteen. and you learn that you dont dare go tracting during a game..you might get shot. lol. or have your mailbox blown up who knows. but we went over to brother myers' house with some of our investigators which are friends of his and watched the game. well they watched sister myers and i sat in the kitchen and talked while "overhearing" some of the game. the whole town was pretty depressed the next day. lol.
josh, kayla, jason and sarah came to church again this week. it was awesome as usual. brother myers is the best gospel principles teacher. especially when we have investigators there.
sorry this ones kinda short this week. i love love love you guys! have an awesome week!!!
love,
sister c

"he did what in his cup!?"

Week 9 - Wednesday 3/24/2010 Transfer Week

sorry i forgot to tell you i wasnt emailing till today! im sure you got sister fagerstens email though. lol. how is everyone!? whats new?
i really dont have a ton to say right now. i can barely even remember last week. we had alot of appointments cancel or bail on us again this week but what else is new, so we spent alot of time tracting. had dinner and a little game night with the fagerstens on friday which is always awesome! saturday we went to our other area that we cover (waverly) and helped tear down a garage. it was supposed to be a big service project that they asked us to come help with but it ended up being just sister myers and i with 5 other guys. but we got it done. it was fun! and one of the guys that was there reminded me of brian baker sooo much. i felt like i was talking to brian the whole time except brian doesnt smoke like a chimney. atleast he better not. lol. we taught josh, kayla, jason and sarah later that day. josh is all for church every sunday now and we finally got the rest of them to say they would come. then later saturday night we went over to the mix' house for dinner. sister mix had two of her friends (thaddius and delores) that are living with her family right now there and wanted us to teach them. so we ended up teaching them most of the 1st lesson and them just talked about the gospel in general the rest of the time. i love black people! they're so funny and get so into the lessons. so sunday came around and i had to call jason and wake him up and threaten him to get out of bed and get ready for church. so jason, sarah, josh and kayla all came to church along with thaddius and delores and one of our less active members annie came with her husband larry who's not a member that we've met with once. so we ended up having 7 investigators at church this week!! and then i found out that josh and larry actually already knew eachother before we introduced them at church. and josh told me all about how he and larry actually met when they were both in jail, they were in the cells next to eachother and they used to stand on the toilets so they could hear eachother through the vents and read the bible together. i thought it was awesome! and it kinda reminded me of prison break for some reason. lol. sunday was awesome though!! i was soo freakin happy all day, couldn't not smile! cant even imagine what it'll be like when they finally get baptized. :)
anyway, lets see.....monday felt soo long without pday. we went tracting most of the day cuz our appointments canceled on us. we tracted a street that was all college students which terrify me for some reason. lol. i was soo nervous at first but then once we talked to a few people i was a little more relaxed. we had 20 contacts on that one street and had 8 of them want us to come back!! monday night we went over to one of our investigators house (paul rice). he's about 65-67ish. we've taught him once. he's super nice, funny and super lonely. we taught him monday night and played cards with him for a little bit after that. he got got soo excited that we wanted to play cards with him. he wants us to help him find a nice woman...theres not much we can do there so we're gonna talk him into getting a dog. lol. speaking of dogs...you still want a huskie dad? sarahs trying to sell hers cuz they need the money. i'll send her to you! lol. and theres a family in our ward with a st bernard.....oh my gosh, he's the biggest thing ive ever seen. okay maybe not ever but he's hu-mungo!!!!!!
well after this sister myers and i are goin over to a member from the waterloo ward with the elders and making mocassins!! im so excited! i get to be full indian for the day mom!! saweet!! haha.
well its wednesday but i will get to email in a couple days on monday again.
i love love love you all! have a fan freakin tastic week!!

"Don't kill your daughter"

3/22/2010
This was the heading of our "message" we received from our "source" in Iowa. I guess transfers are this week so there's no p-day. Aghhhhhhhh!!!! So I'm not sure if she is being transfered or of this is what happens on transfer weeks. We're still learning too. My "source" did say "I'll let her tell you about her awesome day today". WHAT! Great, I'll have to wait til next week. If you know anyone who would like to read her letters I created a blog for her and posting her letters. It's sistercourtneycallaway.blogspot.com
Have a great week!

Week 8

no bombs this week!
3/15/2010

hello hello family!!! oh my gosh the snow is GONE!!! and its sooo nice outside! its 56 right now, i can finally go outside without a jacket! so we only had about 4 lessons this week. the rest of them canceled on us so we tracted and tried to see less actives alot which was pretty unsuccessful. which was the most frustrating thing ever but that just part of the work i guess. we're still tryin to get josh to quit smoking and tryin to figure out stuff to get them married so they can get baptized. slowly but surely. and we're teaching their friends jason and sarah. oh my gosh, i love them! they love sister myers and i cuz we're "normal". they're both awesome! the other day we were over there and sister myers was kinda talking to josh and kayla alittle bit while i was talking to sarah and she just started crying and hugging me, telling me all this stuff about their kids in foster care and if they dot get jobs and gettin stuff fixed around their house they're gonna lose the kids for good. talk about ripping my heart out. so we're tryin to help them find jobs and we're gonna go over and help them around their house. its hard being in that situation on a mission cuz i cant spend all my time doing everything i could like i would if i wasnt on a mission. i dont know if that even makes sense. lol. but thats jason and sarah for ya. so thursday night a bunch of people from our ward were volunteering to help the fire department with going around to neighborhoods and stuff to warn people about flooding this weekend in some areas. i got to wear PANTS!!!! oh my gosh i was soo happy! lol. so sister myers and i along with the elders in our district (elder roberts and rasmussen) got assigned to these 3 streets that were on the outskirts of town. we hit a deer on our way out there, got there and there ended up only being one house with people in it. the rest of them were totally trashed and abandoned which is super creepy when its dark outside. it was a fun adventure though. now for saturday....wow!! thats all i can say, it was......awesome!!!!! sister fagersten, her son joe, sister myers and left early that morning and went to carthage first actually. i loved it! i definately appreciated more now than i did when we went when i was 14. i was 14, it was summer time and i wanted to go home. sorry bout that mom and dad i was a brat. :) so from there we went to nauvoo and went to the temple. i was soo freakin excited and then we were actually walking un the steps was when i realized....oh my gosh...im going INSIDE the NAUVOO temple...crazy!! oh man. i dont even know how to explain or describe anything from then on. after the temple we went to the seventies hall, then just around the town alittle bit. oh my gosh, and then after that we went to the nauvoo stake conference and got to see elder holland speak!! oh my gosh!!!!! im pretty sure that tops a pipe bomb!!! that was our week though, in a nut shell of course cuz i honestly dont know what happened to this week, went by soo fast but at the same time i cant remember half of it. lol. the baileys are gone this week so sister myers and i have the house to ourselves! partay! she made brownies and we jumped on the trampoline...thats us goin buck wild as missionaries! lol.
well, i did get my package so i did get to take my temple clothes. thank you so much!!!!! i love them! and i did get the letter and pictures also. and im so happy you got an email from sister fagersten. she soo awesome! she reminds me of you mom and becky mixed into one! that means shes way awesome!!! hey when do i get copies of our family pictures? im soo sorry about aunt lil mom! let me know whats going on with that.
im gonna get kicked off the computer. i love you all soooooo much!!! have an awesome week!!

*this is the church of happy endings!!!!!

Week 7

Boom!!
3/8/2010
so this week started off with a big boom...literally. i make myself laugh. sometime super late saturday night someone put a pipe bomb (w/ a metal pipe instead of pvc like a normal pipe bomb..not that i have expericence with that lol.) in our mailbox and blew it up! that thing was all over the neighborhood, dented the garage door across the street, blew off pieces of the siding of the house and the house down the street from us. but i went out to put a letter in the mailbox earlier that day and it was full of bb's that they put in there ahead of time i guess. i thought it was weird but i dont know what iowa people do with their mailboxes so i didnt think anything of it. lol. i dont know how i slept through it thought cuz everyone else heard it. but atleast the mail man took blakes letter before it blew up or else i would be soo upset right now...it took me forever to write that! jk. well that was our excitement yesterday. we were late for church cuz the cops wouldnt let us leave until they were done "processing the scene". lol. so this week we taught josh and kayla the law of chastity...talk about awkward...i was afraid it was going to be atleast. but we are super close with josh, he tells us everything now so it wasnt bad at all. it was really funny actually, we were reading through the law of chastity pamplet and he just sat there with this huge grin on his face and said.."well i guess ive been breakin that law for a long time then."and just laughed and they both decided they want to get baptized!!!! i cant even explain how excited we were after we left their house that night we talked about it. sister myers and i were bouncing in the car the whole way home. lol. and we get to plan a wedding!!! cuz they're getting married before the baptism so thats in about a month i think. we havent figured that out exactly yet. we just started teaching two of their friends this week too. jason and sarah. their awesome! we taught them friday night and it was the best lesson ever. i cant really explain it, jason just constantly asks sooooo many questions and has such and open mind about it and wants to understands. his girlfriend sarah totally depends the church and says that it totally makes sense...hello can you say "golden"!! they saiod they talked to the missionaries about 6 years ago so we just need to finish what they started. which would be awesome!!! other than that we've have just about every one of our appointments cancel this week so we've been doing alot of tracting which you know how much i love and just alot of visiting less actives..or trying atleast. i want you guys to meet the people here so bad. oh my gosh, i cant even go through and name everybody theres to many. but you will someday. oh my gosh, i get to go to the nauvoo temple this saturday and do a session. im SOOO excited!!! which reminds me im soo happy you finally got my stuff mom. that scared me. which i wish i had it for this weekend but oh well. but if you do send it to me eventually make sure you do it through the regular mail or else it will sit at the mission home forever. we get to ride to the temple on saturday with sister fagersten and her son joe that is getting ready to leave on his mission to spain and i still need to send you his cd that i have for you guys. and no i havent gotten any pics from you yet mom i hope i get them soon though. im glad ames got my letter though. i love that aud put all of that up on her blog. thats awesome. and there will be more to come! im glad the man cave is almost done, so it'll be nice and broken in for when i get home and get to live in it huh...sweet! well i dont have very much left to say about the week. it was pretty slow and i hate that when i come to email i can barely even remember the week. lol. sorry its not a very eventful email this week i'll try to top the pipe bomb for next week!! parker you're gonna be a missionary soon!!! yay!!! i LOVE you all sooooooo much. and i miss everyone!! have an awesome awesome week!!
forever and always,
sister c (everyone else calls me sister sacramento)

"put that in your book!!!" haha

Week 6

SPRING is COMING!!!!!
3/1/2010
hello loved ones!! oh my gosh, i am soo sick of the snow but its starting to melt and i love it!!! i never knew ice cicles were so dangerous. sister myers and i like to refer to them as death cicles now. we were tracting a couple days ago and knocked on this door, there was a HUGE/super sharp ice cicle hangin in front of the door and i make the mistake of saying what if that just fell on you!? haha... and when this lady opened her door it hit the ice cicle and was like 2 inches from sister myers' face. it almost killed her hence death cicles. haha. that was kind of a pointless stroy but it was funny. anyway, thank you sooo much everybody for all the birthday cards and emails. i really never understood why missionaries are so obsessed with mail till now and i love love love getting it!!! thank you! and sister myers says thank you for lunch dad!! :) and i LOVE my birthday booty card!! awesome! i love those rabbits.lol. tuesday we had zone conference, soo good! sister myers and i are the only sisters in our zone. oh my gosh, guess where we went to dinner afterward....RED ROBIN....YUM!!!! it was soooo delicious!!!! i cant remeber if i told you this last week but we go to the nursing home down the street every wednesday and help with bingo....i had three 85 year old men ask me to marry them this week. it was really funny. i feel like im at work with dad when im there. lol. on wednesday we had dinner with the craziest old couple in our ward (the rogers).i dont really know how to describe any other way than crazy but hilarious. sister rogers really wanted to play apples to apples so we ended up playing with her for about an hour. not as much fun as game night at the dennas but it was fun. josh is doing awesome. he came to church yesterday and looked so nice, got his hair cut, shaved, had a shirt on! :) he started trying to quit smoking this last week and is doing pretty good with it i think. sister myers and i made him some no smoking cookies the other day. decorated them with the no smoking sign with the line through on them. we took them over to his house. they were home but i could smell cigarette smoke coming from inside and they didnt answer the door which i though was kind of funny. this week really wasnt very eventful...we had pday, zone conference then most of our appointments canceled, tracting wasnt very successful and then sister myers was sick and then we got stuck spending all day saturday cleaning the apartment the elders used to live in. so theres not much else to talk about other than the fact that our ward is awesome! but im pretty sure ive already said that before. brothers myers did bring me peanut butter capn crunch for my birthday..that was awesome! what else what else........im thinking.......im thinking.......................how come i havent gotten any letters from my sisters yet since ive been here...thats odd! ive already gotten 3 from anna! lol. vitas not an alien anymore YAY!!! but now i cant use her as an excuse to go to russia when she gets deported dang it!!! lol. i cant believe haleys trying out for volleyball...crazy. shes got the long legs for it though. whats dad been up to? hows the man shop comin along? everyone just tell me what they're doing instead of me going through each person cuz theres so many. lol. oh my gosh, i forgot....there is this little boy named avery in our ward that looks exactly like russell from the movie UP. except with red hair. he is the cutest thing ever! its so hard not to pinch his cheeks. lol. i told him he needs to wear his boy scout uniform and let me take a picture so i can sent it to you. well the computers gonna kick me off so im gonna go. i LOVE you ALL so much!!!!!! have a super duper week!!!
Sister C

are we going to the opera......i dont think thso!!!

Week 5 "Golden"Birthday

ya ta hay loved ones!!
2/22/2010
hi hi hi!!! 22 years ago today i was birthed!!! yay for me! thanks mom and dad. lol. my email is working now so ive gotten everyones emails! thank you thank you!!!! oh my gosh thank you sooo much for my birthday package and my stawberries! they we're amazing! brother myers' bday was yesterday so we had a little pizza party for both of ours and i gave him one of my strawberries and he says thank you!!! thank you for my valentines day flower dad!! i loved it! and wades cookies....amazing as always! everyone loved them!!!! thank you! so we've had some fun tracting experiences this last week. first of all...im not a very big fan of tracting at all but ya gotta do whatcha gotta do. one thing that im really trying to work on is patience and letting things go i guess right now.we had one lady tell us while we were tracting that jesus died for our sins and you dont have to do anything to gain your salvation, that is just given to you and that we are being decieved and kept going on about the dumbest things (but she was super mean about it) and you know my mouth, i had to try soo hard to not tell her that she was an idiot. lol. i'll wait to do that till i get off the mish. we had one lady that was pretty rude and she called all of her neighbors and told them that we were in the neighborhood so they either answered and told us no while they were on the phone with her or they just didnt answer. it was sooo annoying but its funny now. so our ward is amazing! brother myers is so awesome! he's so on top of ward missionary work but the whole ward is pretty much. we had so much to eat yeserday, went to brother myers' for our little party and then had dinner at bishop diesers right after that. he was telling us about the tornadoes they had last year and one i 08 that was really bad i guess. wiped out most of parkersburg i guess if you find an ensign from october 08 theres stuff about it in there. haley! im sorry for never letting you play the piano! i promise i will never tell you to stop playing it again as long as its not at 6:30 in the freakin morning. the family that we're living with, sister bailey plays the piano at 6:30 EVERY morning!!! really...normal people dont do that. they are the most structured family ever! its weird. lol. we had dinner with the fowkes saturday night. they're also awesome. sister fowkes reminds me of becky! they've got quads...and a banchee!!!! kills me! ive been studying the 2nd coming alot lately..and holy crap i dont know ANYTHING! i but theres somethin about being on a mission that makes is so much easier to learn, and even if youve read something before you learn something new everytime you read it. i LOVE it!! i cant believe blakey comes home in 4 months! that is so crazy! he should just stay out for another year and a half so we can come home at the same time...sounds like a plan. lol. and oh my gosh....are you kidding me do i need to come home and beat some sense into jeff and shawn!! im shocked..... anyway, im not sure what else to talk about so i guess i'll just go. but i LOVE LOVE LOVE you all sooooooooooooo much!! have an awesome week!!
forever and always,

Week 4 1st week in Iowa

Helloooo Iowa!!!!!
2/15/2010
it is soo freakin cold here!!!! its painful! but other than that i LOVE it here! so i aldready told you on the phone about the guy i talked to on the plane..epic failure since he only listend to me cuz he wanted to ask me out...awkward. but we got to des moines wednesday afternoon and president and sister talbot and a couple elders were waiting for us at the air port. went to their house, had dinner and did some welcoming stuff and stayed the night there. they're awesome! i miss my district from the mtc so bad though already. but im in cedar falls right now with sister myers as my trainer/companion and she is...awesome! i love her! super cute, kinda quite until you get her to actually talk and im gettin it out of her already. we're living with a family in the ward..the baileys. bro. baileys the first counselor in the stake presidency and they've got 6 kids (i think) but the 2 youngest are the only ones at home now. elizabeth is 15 and alice is 12. they're super nice. so our area is huge!! and its just sister myers and i that cover it so we've got alot of work to do. since neither one of us have been to this area before we're "whitewashin it" and have been trying to meet investigators that were working with the elders before us. so on saturday we went to meet this guy named josh. we knock on the door and his girlfriend answers and he comes to the door without a shirt on, lets us inside and we talked to him for awhile. everytime he got up to take care of one of the kids i saw his entire butt. big nascar fan...nuff said. it was hilarious. he reminds me of uncle bill so much (beecroft). we had a girl (monique) be confirmed yesterday, it was awesome! she's soo stinkin sweet. i love her. and then last night we went and taught julieann, she had been talking to the missionaries for about 2-3 weeks, gone to church twice and we talked to her about baptism last night and she said she wouldnt do it cuz she's already been and her daughter is lutheran and has to take her to that church. we assigned her to read 3 Nephi 11.....she called us a couple hours later and told me that she might be interested in being baptized! it was awesome. so we're meeting with her again on thursday. brother myers is our ward mission leader and oh my gosh i love him. hes freakin awesome! i dont really know how to describe him other than that. oh my gosh..and the fagersten family! (yes, the name sounds just like its spelt). lol. they are amazing! we went over there after church yesterday for lunch. they've got 9 kids but only 3 at home. joe 19, ben just turned 18 yesterday and jacob 16. i LOVE them! i feel soo at home when im there. they're so much fun. they're having us over next monday for my birthday!! yay! joe is amazing on the piano. im gonna send you one of his cds! thats been about it since i got here on thursday. i love love love it! minus the horrible but sometimes beautiful snow. oh yeah, amy...the ice cicles here are HUGE!! i took some pictures that i'll send you. i need brit to get ahold of john mortimer and tell him that the song he wrote is the mission song and they sing it at every district/zone/mission meeting. and that the fagerstens say hello!!! so i dont really know how the whole dearelder.com thing works now that im out in the field. and my email apparently doesnt work cuz theres a newer version. you'll still get this but i dont get anything from anyone on here so i have to figure that out. either that or its just noone loves me enough to email me. lol. whats everyone been doin? hows softball for steph? tell me things!! i dont know whats going on with anyone. lol. hello to everyone my mom sends this to....i LOVE you ALL!!!!!!!!!!!! well im going to go put pants on for as long as i can. have a super duper week everyone and i love you!! We (Steph, Amy, Haley, Mark and I) took Courtney to the MTC. We had to leave a day earlier to beat the storms that were coming. First we had to go to BYU Idaho to pick up her things and say BYE to everyone. Then on to Provo. She entered the MTC on Wednesday January 20, 2010. Now we wait for her 1st letter.....

The Call....

Courtney recieved her mission call (in the mail) On December 26, 2009. Ok, well if we go back a few days. The 21st to be exact. Mark and I were out christmas shopping and Courtney called us saying the Stake President called her and said "So I hear you are going to Des Moines Iowa?" And her response was "Uh, well I don't know I haven't gotten anything yet." and he said "You haven't? Um, I'll call and findout whats happened." So come to find out there was a little bit of a mixup. Her call was ready to go, and the report date on the letter was "March 3." I'm guessing the Mission President was notified and then contacted the Stake President to ask if it were possible for her to report earlier than the original date January 20th. SO, he (the Stake President) didn't know that she hadn't gotten it in the mail when he called her. She told him that she could report early to the Missionary Training Center. SO the rush was on!! So much to do in LESS THAN A MONTH!!!
